SUPAFIT SEAT COVERS

OVERVIEW

Local retailer Supafit Seat Covers came to us looking for robust IT support backed by attentive service to fix ongoing technical issues they were experiencing. Our clients had engaged IT support through another local IT provider yet they felt they were receiving inadequate service. Faced with continuous unresolved server disruption, they switched to our IT support services where we investigated and swiftly fixed their concerns.

THE PROBLEM

Supafit Seat Covers were facing a myriad of productivity issues due to their consistently unreliable servers. Yet the technical problems hounding their business remained unresolved because of the current IT provider’s poor communication and the lack of action surrounding requests. They weren’t receiving updates, didn’t feel like they were being heard and felt they were being brushed off. Every response they received came with excessively long wait times and any action to answer was slow and clunky. With a potential office move on their hands, Supafit Seat Covers wanted to resolve their server troubles urgently and get their business back to peak performance. They came to Metrowest for a more thorough support service to rectify their concerns, tidy up their systems and get things working smoothly.

THE JOB SCOPE

The first part of our job was to understand and sort out their server troubles allowing Supafit Seat Covers to get back to doing what they do best. We also sought to apply a tailor-made service plan to their business so we could reliably manage their day-to-day IT needs. By working closely with our client, we aimed to design a cost-effective approach to minimise their investment. To get them up to speed we recommended only implementing vital infrastructure to begin with. Then over time, we would slowly phase out any old or outdated systems to elevate their operations.

WHAT WE DID

Our first port of call was to resolve their server worries, which currently needed to be restarted every single night. To identify the issue we enabled a memory dump, automatically dumping the system’s memory to a dedicated file any time the server experienced an unexpected shutdown or failure. This let us view the dump files to work out where the technical glitch was happening. Once we observed the issue was within the guest operating system and not their physical hardware, it was speedily addressed and resolved.

Here it was discovered the culprit doing server damage was the client’s accounting program and the outdated operating system the server ran on. This is a program with two different editions, a client version and a server version. Supafit Seat Covers had both. They also had multiple server versions which were continuously running in the background under each user indexing all files and sharing them to connected systems. Because they were all running simultaneously and had multiple instances, most of the server’s resources were getting consumed by the application. We went about uninstalling the multiple applications, removing all background services running under everyone’s account. Then we installed the correct version and updated their operating system. Instantly their systems picked up speed and productivity could be resumed.

THE OUTCOME

The issue causing Supafit Seat Covers so many server complications was identified and resolved with lightning speed. This set a baseline for our interactions with our client. After their last provider left them waiting, Metrowest got their request response time down to an average of 17 minutes, an effective solution developed within approximately 5 hours and resolved in as little as 8. Our client is thrilled with how fast we’re able to act, while our continued IT support provides reassurance there’s always someone there when needed.
